BMW MZ4 Coupe

BMW spent its time at the 2006 New York Auto show essentially gloating. Sales are up for our Bavarian friends, and they’re happy about it. Furthermore, transaction prices are up too-perhaps due to more expensive cars? For example, look at the 2006 M5-the average sale runs $92,000 today, up $20 grand over the old model.

As far as actual car news goes, BMW did officially unveil the Z4 Coupe. However, since it’s been on display in one form or another since Detroit, we weren’t real surprised. We do have confirmation, however, that the new coupe will hold two golf bags, and comes with lightweight alloy rims. The M version packs the 3.2-liter straight-six, making 330 horsepower. BMW says that hot-rod laps the Nurburgring’s North Loop faster than an M3.

Charlie is Roadfly’s founder and publisher, and was taught to drive by his father in a 1974 Porsche 914. That made poor Charlie a Porsche fanboy for life, and after driving a 911SC at 16, he bought and campaigned a variety of 944s at racetracks up and down the East Coast, earning awards and track records in his twenties. Charlie never really got over the car bug, and after a career in real estate development he founded the Internet media firm that became Roadfly. Charlie lives in McLean, VA with his wife and two daughters, and between the demands of family and business doesn’t have much time to play with cars anymore, excluding the machinery we review.
