2009 Porsche Carrera PDK Transmission

Join our host Charlie Romero as he interviews Michael Niko, the managing engineer of the Porsche Carrera’s new PDK transmission. The PDK replaces the Tiptronic transmission of past 911 Carreras, and operates with a double clutch, combining the technologies of the automatic converter and the manual transmission. Transmission one controls the odd gears and reverse while transmission two, the inner clutch, controls the even gears. With the double clutch there is no lag time when shifting, making the shift time faster than an F1 car.

Watch our interview for a more in-depth look at the PDK transmission, including how the clutch packs are cooled, how fast the shifts occur, and the fuel economy.

Discuss the PDK in the Porsche 911 Forum.
